ARTS IN MEDICINE

President:

Contact us:

The Arts in Medicine society is a platform for exploring the humanities and creative arts including philosophy, literature, history, drawing, crafts, theatre and music in relation to medicine. We hold many events throughout the year, from a regular reading group to the annual art exhibition. We have formed links with the new Centre for Health, Humanities and Science, meaning you’re in the right place to be engaging with the most interesting, debated and current research in the field. Come along to a social to meet like minded students in a relaxed and friendly environment and like us on social media to stay informed of interesting events and resources.

THE BLACK BAG

President:

Contact us:

The Black Bag has been the medical school magazine since 1937. Published thrice every year, we are the voice of both students and alumni. Initially designed by the Faculty of Medicine as a scholastic publication, the Black Bag was taken over by students in the 1970s and replaced with a slightly lesspolished perspective on the raucous life of medical students. Today, our articles range from the informative to the satirical, providing a platform for both thought-provoking discussion and comical musings. We look to reflect on the wide variety of Galenicals sub-societies (sports, music, drama) as well as to evaluate (and lampoon) the current state of the Bristol Medical School and the world of medicine. The Black Bag are always looking for contributors. If you are interested in writing for us, please email: blackbag@galenicals.org.uk

CLICENDALES

President:

Contact us:

Look out for the biggest night of the year in the Bristol Medical School calendar! Every year over 150 medical students put on a strip show in aid of the local charity Clic Sargent. At a sold out Bristol O2 academy, medical students from all years get their kit off for an incredibly worthwhile cause. Clic Sargent provides incredible support for children suffering with cancer, and helps limit the damage beyond their health. On the night we put on a number of different strip shows for both boys and girls, all with various themes. We have non-strip dances, semi-strip dances and finally the full-strip dances! This year’s show will be in March 2018, and we will be looking for new medics from all years to join us and participate in the biggest show ever! No dance experience is required, just bucket loads of enthusiasm. Last year we raised over £23,000 and want to beat that target this year. Like ‘CLICENDALES’ on Facebook, and look out for more information later in the year. Make sure you say hi at the freshers fair and check our facebook page for more info!

At Sexpression Bristol we train up our volunteers to go into local Secondary Schools and teach about topics ranging from STIs, contraception, consent to sexuality and gender identity. We are a group of friendly and open minded people looking for volunteers that are as enthusiastic about safe sex as we are.

Teddy Bear Hospital is a scheme run across the country and BUMPS are so excited to be joining this community offering Teddy Clinics to schools and clubs such as Brownies and Scouts around Bristol. Throughout the year we will run fun-filled Teddy clinics packed with activities that introduce children to the sorts of things that they can expect in a medical environment, what we do as medics, and how they can look after themselves, all whilst using their very own poorly teddies. Our aim is to help reduce the nerves and anxiety that children often feel when put in a medical environment. Please like our Facebook page, Teddy Bear Hospital Bristol for all of the up to date information and any questions please just message us or email bristol.teddybearhospital@gmail.com

Welcome to Bristol Medical School! We are the Bristol Medis Wine Tasting Society and we host an annual event each year. The BMS wine tasting evening is always one of the biggest highlights of the year. Any BMS alumni will tell you that this event is one not to be missed. Each year there is a different theme organised by a new committee. However, the same foundations apply to each event, this includes a sommelier and unlimited supplies of wine for each guest. Yes, unlimited. We hope to see you there this year. Look out for posts in the galenical’s newsletters and please join our Facebook page:
