Mixed Basketball

Galenicals basketball is one of the up and coming sports teams within the society. After a strong 08/09 season in the intramural league and good performances against other universities, this year is looking to be really successful for the squad, so get involved!

Training happens every Sunday in Tyndall Avenue sports centre around 3pm, and with a possible Wednesday session, we are looking to go from strength to strength and this season and take the league by force. This year we comfortably beat the eventual league runners up which shows our potential. What we need is a solid intake of ballers and ballettes from the fresh and we set ourselves up for a great year.

Along with the league we have nationwide and European fixtures. Southampton, Cardiff and the infamous Nantes are a few of the expected fixtures. We either host or travel to the other universities and they’re always very competitive on court. We can show the other teams up on the court but this means nothing if we can’t show them up off the court.

As well as the introductory drinks and the Sports Club Dinner the basketball team go out with the other basketball teams after a match which is always a good laugh and is just as competitive. Expect regular socials with fancy dress, challenges and a lot of partying in the 09/10 season.

Training this year will be hard work but also fun, as that’s what it’s about at the end of the day. But it’s even more fun if you win. So do the right thing and get involved.
