International Job Description
This is a great role on the committee, very social, varied, and loads of scope for new ideas. There’s the occasional faculty meeting to attend, but otherwise the role is largely one of information and student support, specifically about International issues. Your main focus is on the Erasmus programme, of which the main responsibilities include:
- Welcoming incoming students. Providing support with accommodation, social events and settling in.
- Supporting the outgoing students, before, during and after their time abroad, and liaising with the faculty if problems arise.
- Advertising the Erasmus programme to younger years
- Representing Erasmus to the Medical School as a student representative.
Alongside all things Erasmus, external SSCs, electives and Bristol international students are all under your wing. You can also work on help the faculty bring in new schemes including introducing International Health into the curriculum and European Medicine intercalated BSc (being rolled out in 2011).
It’s almost essential to have been on Erasmus yourself, so that you can help the faculty improve the programme and prepare and support outgoing students. It’s a lot of fun, with your own social budget, not too much work and a good excuse to go and visit next year’s Erasmuses!
